World Youth Day 2008 video

After spending a good part of yesterday and today trying to get a handle on exactly what we'll be doing at World Youth Day in Sydney, figuring out the budget, and considering how I am going to raise the monday necessary to pay for it all, it's refreshing
to watch this WYD video which reminds me of what it is all about . . . and what God has done and will do through this gathering.

Beinst you'll be coming to this part of the world, why don't you cruise to Sydney, either coming or going through Christchurch? Plenty of room here for you to stay and I'm sure we could arrange for you to do a presentation for interested groups here.
Cheers

Alas, neither Fr. Mike or I will be going to WYD in Sydney. Prohibitively expensive. Our Australian team will handling it all. (I've been watching Shakespeare in Love recently. Ben Affleck, as the star actor, asks one character "who are you?". The poor man replies "I'm the money." That about sums it up)

Or at least, I'm the one who is trying to raise the money cause our tiny, valiant Aussie team is even tinier and more poverty-stricken than we are.

But there is some talk of us going back in 2009 so maybe we can arrange a NZ tour then? I have been to Auckland, Wellington, and the North Island before - very early days - 1999, I think.

Hooray for youth! Our hope for an answer to Christ's prayer for Christian unity in John 17! By their oh-so-in-love with Jesus expression, perhaps the protestants will see how evangelical we Catholics are. I just listened to a Peter Kreeft lecture on ecumenism, if you haven't heard it, you must! I just discovered his website with lots of juicy topics at www.peterkreeft.com check it out!
One of the points he makes is that until we Catholics become evangelical, evangelicals cannot become Catholic. As fellow intentional disciples, we need to prepare the "wineskin" of our Catholic parishes for the "new wine" of our Christian brothers and sisters coming home!! Yes, I am hopeful! Yes, I'd like to be an answer to prayer.

Stephen Sparrow,
Do you know John and Celia Kennedy? They both did Called and Gifted while they were living in Melbourne and are keen to get something happening in Christchurch.

Clara, indeed I do know John & Calia and count them as good friends of long standing and yes they are giving things a great shove here in the Pro Life movement.

Hurrah for internet introductions: Clara, meet Stephen. Stephen, this is Clara.

Alisa:

Thanks for your wonderful comment. Peter Kreeft was a kind of mentor (via letters!) for me when I first entered the Church. He is simply lovely. I've carefully kept his letters - I couldn't believe that he would write so carefully to a total stranger!
