Christmas Season in the Rockies

Saturday's sunrise over St. Catherine of Siena's chapel at the Archdiocese of Denver's retreat center, St. Malo's. By a enthusiastic local photographer via weatherunderground.

Colorado's beauty breeds photographers like it breeds extreme outdoor enthusiasts.

Terrific shot! Thanks for sharing it!

When I worked in Boulder, I visited that retreat house, It has got to have one of the most enviable locations for a retreat house -- very close to one of the entrances to Rocky Mountain National Park. It's a beautiful facility. Another great retreat house is the Trappist Abbey in Snowmass. In addition to a large building with accomodations for many retreatants in private rooms they also have these wonderful hermitages (octagonal buildings large enough for 2 or 2) with all windows looking out over an isolated mountain valley and the monastery. It's bring your own food and there are few planned programs but a great place for a retreat. Can remember listening to coyote and wolves howling and hunting pray through the night and hoping that eyes would not be staring back at me in the deep dark (no city lights here!) when I went down to the monastery in the middle of the night for early morning prayers.

Best retreat houses around are in Colorado. There is a nice Jesuit retreat house as well..in the foothills between Denver and Colorado Springs if I remember correctly.
