The Last Great Push
This week is my last push to put the final touches on Making Disciples. So blogging will happen but be sporadic.
Fr. Mike is offerings a series of talks this week in a parish of his old stomping grounds in Eugene, Oregon. His topics sound exciting to me so if you find yourself in the Eugene area, consider attending.
There's a reason why Fr. Mike wears Oregon athletic gear so much of the time - he is a deeply committed fan of the . . .DUCKS. . . The Mighty Ducks. . . The mind boggles.
As a Husky myself (University of Washington alum), I've grown used to being on the receiving end of the slings and arrows of outrageous Duck fandom. He's told me some story about Walt Disney offering a large sum of money to the University 50 years ago if they would take the Duck (Donald?) as their mascot but I'm sure its just an urban legend.
But what else could explain it? Any of our readers know the true story?

No, no, no - Husky inferiority complex has clouded your memory, Sherry. Walt Disney and the UO athletic director at the time made a handshake deal to allow the Ducks to use the image of Donald as their mascot. The Duck these days is called, "Doodley Duck," I believe.
P.S. the weather in Eugene these last two days has been glorious.
Unfortunately, I forgot that June is high allergy season for me here, but Claritin works wonders.
You both have your crosses to bear. .. and darn they are large. Of course every one else knows that the best around are the Beavers of OSU. Take note that the Beavs won yet again in the baseball college world series.
How many national championships does the Ducks have again??????
And how can you take seriously "doodley the duck". Scary! NOT!
Mike welcome to OR. Even being a Beaver, I love having you back in OR.

The image of an athletic director wanting Donald Duck to be his mascot is so appalling that no doubt I blocked the memory unconsciously.
A sort of post-duck stress disorder.
But now its all coming back. . .
