Oh the weather outside is frightful . . .

I have to schuss my way across town before dawn this morning to Focus on the Family again to do another ITV presentation for the Diocese of Dodge City, Kansas. We have our third major snowfall in three weeks yesterday and I'm praying that the major roads are possible this early. This is the most snow I've seen in six winters here - or in my entire life. The Mississippi Gulf Coast where I grew up isn't exactly known for its snow storms.

It is very beautiful. But this time, I have to drive myself. At least the traffic will be light! Ah, the glamour of the mendicant lifestyle . . .

If you see this, your prayers for a safe arrival and return would be most appreciated.

Sherry,

You have my prayers for your safety. It seems that Colorado is blocking all the snow that should be coming to the midwest. We've had 1 storm at the beginning of Decembere here in Chicago, and since then it has been a balmy 40+ degrees.

Hi Y'all:

I'm back. Thanks for your prayers! Driving up went pretty well although I couldn't tell whether the lanes were because there was very little traffic at that hour. By the time I reached Focus just after 7 am, the sun was rising and the Front Range was snowier than I've ever seen it before - it was spectacular. I hadn't heard about the avalanche which is probably 150 miles northwest of us. But there is a lot of snow up there!

The ITV presentation went very well I think, now that I had some experience using the technology, which links me from a small room at Focus to 8 different sites around southwestern Kansas. Greg, the very nice Focus tech, made it all possible.

Topic: first talk on the apostolic call of all the baptized and a second 45 min talk on charisms and discernment.

Apparently, other groups, even non-Christian groups like CNN, use the Focus TV studios and ITV capacities. Greg said that he helped recently with the tech side of an interview with a famous wrestler who had gone to Iraq to entertain US troops. Focus let the diocese benefit from their equipment and staff *for free* which is very generous and an interesting kind of grass roots ecumenism.

It has been interesting for me give talks designed entirely for Catholic audiences in front of two different evangelical techs who both listened pretty intently. They both seemed impressed when the Dodge diocesan leaders described several Scripture classes that were planned for the winter and spring.

I explained to Greg that I was fully "bi-cultural" and spoke fluent Protestant and Catholic, which he thought was pretty funny. With my evangelical ears "up", I kept wanting to turn and provide additional background and "translate" various Catholic terms and ideas but forced myself to remember who my designated audience really was!

Greg asked for info about our website and blog when I was done, so we may see him around ID. If you do see him about, be sure and wave to the nice Focus man!
